MALA CONDUCTA Launch Party

One of our more ambitious projects to date is ready for a dunk in the chilly St. George River! We are launching our new 62’ catamaran, MALA CONDUCTA, in Thomaston on April 9th. Designed by Morrelli and Melvin of Huntington Beach, CA, the yacht is our first catamaran project.

MALA CONDUCTA will be used for family cruising, but she will also be awesomely fast! We have been directed to keep her as light and nimble as possible which has become the norm here. The hull was constructed of Kevlar/Eglass prepreg outer skins, with P or Nomex core, and carbon prepreg inner skins. The deck was built in a female mold in one large piece; it is also a combination of Kevlar/E-glass and carbon fiber prepregs. We expect well over 25 knots – not bad for a boat with all the amenities.

Though light, she will have all the systems of a full cruising yacht. She features cutting edge lithium ion batteries and an E-plex electrical system designed to keep her lightweight. The E-plex system by Bass Electronics utilizes cutting edge touch screens located throughout the vessel to control lighting and electronics.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Lyman Morse project without impeccable finish work and interior details. The interior will be modern and bright, featuring maple veneers over carbon. Teak and wenge soles, Oceanair Skyscreens, and Corian counter surfaces provide comfortable cruising aesthetics for up to eight guests and two crew.

The owners were very involved in the mock-up review process in which many changes were made. This once again proves what an important tool the mockup is in building a custom boat.

We are really looking forward to screaming around Penobscot Bay on the sea trials!!!!

The actual launch will take place at noon on the 9th, followed by an official launch party at 5:30 pm.
